state intermediate punishment

State Intermediate Punishment (SIP) is a two year sentence designed mainly for individuals convicted of drug-related offenses. During the two year sentence, the offender must serve at least seven months in a state correctional facility, a minimum of two months in a community based therapeutic community (half-way house which provides drug treatment programming), and at least six months in outpatient treatment.

If the offender fails to successfully complete the program, they will be sent back to the judge and be re-sentenced under traditional sentencing guidelines.

For more detailed information about SIP, please visit the Department of Corrections web site at www.cor.state.pa.us and click on "State Intermediate Punishment" on the left hand side.
