MEDICAL ADVOCACY AND ACCOMPANIMENT
If you were injured during the crime and treated at a hospital, an advocate at a Victim Service Program may come to the hospital to talk with you. Advocates are caring, professional people who are trained and dedicated to the many needs of crime victims. The advocate will explain to you what you can expect to happen if the person who hurt you is arrested and charged with a crime and what your options are. It is okay if you want to wait until you feel better to talk to the advocate.
The advocate can explain to you about the police investigation, the arrest of the offender, court proceedings, and your rights as a crime victim.
